Helping Out: Cheshire Demolition’s Community Skip Project

Cheshire Demolition is happy to announce the launch of its Community Skip Project, a charitable initiative designed to give something back to the local community. Each month, we will provide a free skip to a local charity, good cause, or organisation.

What is the Community Skip Project?

We understand that waste management can be a significant cost for charities and community organisations, which often operate on limited budgets. By providing free skips, we aim to support these groups in their projects and community efforts… and make Macclesfield and the surrounding area a little tidier.

We believe in supporting our local community, and this is part of our ongoing commitment to helping those around us to make a positive difference.

How Does It Work?

Local Charities, Good Causes and Organisations Apply
We ask local charities, good causes and organisations to submit a request telling us how a skip could help. Applications can be submitted through our Facebook account or via email.

Selection Process
We’ll review the submissions and select the project that we think needs it the most that month.

Skip Delivery
We will deliver the skip to their location, allowing them to efficiently manage their waste as part of their project or community initiative.

Paperwork
We will take care of all the paperwork and legal requirements.
Our normal terms and conditions will still apply

The First Recipient: The Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club

We’re thrilled to announce that Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club is the first beneficiary of our Community Skip Project. We recently visited the club to meet the team. Built in 1838 and became the ex-serviceman’s club in 1927.  It had been a school and a rehabilitation centre before 1927. The Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club (SSC) is now a charitable trust owned by the local community. The SSC is the central hub in Sutton, bringing the community together for events and gatherings throughout the year. With over 300 members, the club is open to everyone to get involved.

The SSC has an events space for hire and a great bar that is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. It shows Sky Sports and serves a very reasonably priced pint, I have to say.

We got chatting to Nev at the bar. Nev is the very fabric of the SSC, having spent 75 years of his life socialising here. He first became a regular here around 1947! A retired roofer, Nev was a Cheshire Demolition customer back in the 80s.

Nick, the club steward, thanked us, “This is a very kind gesture by Cheshire Demolition. It has enabled us to start something we couldn’t do for ages – to have a good old clearout before a refresh and a coat of paint. There were several decades worth of things stored away that needed either sorting out or throwing away. Amongst the items destined for the skip, we have found some wonderful old SSC memorabilia, objects, and pictures that will now be put back on display”.

SCC is open to everyone and would love to see new faces popping in for a chat and a drink.

Organisations like SSC play a vital role in supporting the local community, and we are happy to assist them and the community they serve.

Date for the Diary
On Sunday, 1st September, the Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club will hold the 56th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show. The Show will take place in a large marquee on Spooners Flats, Hollin Lane, Sutton. This year has over 1,400 entries and includes The World Lemon Cheese Championship. I don’t know what this is, but it involves lemon and cheese, so we’ll be there! Would your project benefit from a Cheshire Demolition Skip?

If you represent a local charity, good cause or organisation interested in benefiting from our Community Skip Project, we invite you to apply. Message us via Facebook, or send an email to [email protected] explaining your organisation’s mission and how a free skip would aid your cause.

We invite all local charities, organisations and good causes to apply. From the local WI, the Scouts, Gardening Clubs, and Friends of Societies, everyone and anyone can submit their requests. Let’s work together to support our community and make a difference, one skip at a time.
