CDE Motors – The Maintenance Powerhouse Behind Cheshire Demolition’s Success

When most people think of Cheshire Demolition, they picture towering excavators, expert site clearances, and decades of demolition expertise. What they might not realise is that behind the scenes, there’s an entire maintenance division – CDE Motors – keeping every single vehicle, machine, and tool running at peak performance.

Formed in 2021, CDE Motors was created to support Cheshire Demolition with its extensive vehicle and machinery maintenance requirements. Today, it has become a vital part of the company’s success. And the best part? CDE Motors can also offer its specialist services to everyone.

A Fleet That Never Stops Moving

The scale of Cheshire Demolition’s fleet is remarkable:

  • • 37 road vehicles: This includes 2 x hook loaders, 1 x grab wagon, 6 x skip trucks (5 x HGVs + 1 x transit), 3 x HIABs (a lorry-mounted crane that can both transport and lift heavy loads), 10 x tippers, and 15 x light commercial vehicles.
  • • 43 pieces of heavy plant and machinery, from excavators, bulldozers, and crushers to shredders, telehandlers, and forklifts.
  • • A fleet that covers over 1 million miles every year – the equivalent of travelling to the moon and back twice.
  • • A fuel consumption of more than 700,000 litres of diesel per year, with each road mile carefully managed through meticulous route planning to maximise efficiency.

Keeping such a vast operation moving is no small task. With around 20 drivers, vehicles from trusted brands such as Volvo, Renault, MAN, and DAF, and skip wagons that alone deliver 1,800 skips per month, the need for an in-house maintenance division becomes apparent.

What CDE Motors Does

CDE Motors is far more than just a garage. It’s a full-service maintenance hub with the expertise to handle:

  • • Safety Inspections & MOT Preparation – For cars, vans, HGVs, and motorhomes.
  • • Brake Roller Testing – HGVs over 3.5 tonnes must undergo this every 6 weeks to meet legal safety standards.
  • • Both Major and Minor Repairs – From full engine replacements to more straightforward breakdown fixes.
  • • Plant and Tool Maintenance – Everything from excavators and forklifts to Stihl saws, generators, welfare units, and trailers.
  • • Proactive Servicing – Every vehicle is serviced at around 500 hours of use to reduce breakdowns.

While most work is carried out in-house, some highly specialist jobs, such as hydraulic hose replacement and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) hydraulic testing, are outsourced to ensure compliance with UK safety regulations.

Behind the Scenes at CDE Motors

CDE Motors’ strength is its experienced team. The workshop is led by Dave Bowyer (three years with the business) with 11 mechanics and logistics staff. Dave is supported by Transport Manager Karen (seven years with the company) and Garage Assistant Manager Harriet (12 years). Together, this cohesive team coordinates a busy workshop that handles around 100 repairs daily.

It’s this combination of teamwork, expertise, and resilience that ensures Cheshire Demolition’s operations never stop. In Dave’s own words, CDE Motors can “Fix everything from a wheelbarrow to a 44-tonne wagon.”

Technology Meets Tradition

Advances in technology have transformed the way CDE Motors works. From telematics to full on-board diagnostics, every vehicle can be connected to Texa or Jaltest – cutting-edge systems that help the team identify problems early and fix them quickly.

However, while technology plays a crucial role, traditional craftsmanship remains at the heart of what they do. Demolition vehicles endure punishing conditions – particularly with hydraulics – and it takes an experienced mechanic to keep them safe and operational.

What Makes CDE Motors Different?

There are plenty of garages out there, but few with the scale and expertise of CDE Motors. Here’s why they stand out:

  • • They maintain one of the largest demolition fleets in the North West, covering over 1 million miles a year.
  • • They are familiar with the latest vehicle tech – Cheshire Demolition typically replaces their fleet vehicles every 4–5 years.
  • • They manage not just vehicles, but the full spectrum of tools and logistics equipment. No job is too big or small!
  • • Their processes prioritise both safety and efficiency, with every repair rigorously tested before being signed off.

Perhaps the biggest misconception? That running a garage is predictable. As the team will tell you, “It’s a forever-changing day – we’ve learned to always plan for the unexpected!”

Because Cheshire Demolition has its own in-house maintenance division, its entire fleet stays in top condition. This means they can respond quickly to any breakdown and avoid project delays caused by vehicle downtime. For customers, this translates directly to reliability, efficiency, and peace of mind.
